Adult Volunteer Opportunities
Do you love to play? Love to get messy? Enjoy fixing things? We’d love to have your talent at Children’s Museum of Illinois! Below are various ways you can help us bring the arts and sciences to the community.
Opportunity: This is a wonderful opportunity for someone that is active and likes to chat and interact with people. It’s a high energy position that requires moving, bending, and smiling. This person will need to be able to pay attention to detail to anticipate and solve small problems on the exhibit floor.
Description: Interact with families and groups on the exhibit floor. Help with light cleaning and re-setting of exhibits. This is a highly social and physical role with prolonged standing in the Museum with a structured schedule.
Opportunity: Do you love getting messy and teaching kids? Us too! We’re looking for some excited people to help us teach kids how to explore, create, and design. This job is on an as needed basis, so we will contact you when we have educational field trips or programs. Great for those with busy schedules.
Description: Assist with educational field trips, outreach, Girl Scout programs, and summer camps. This role is the most involved with children, yet amount of volunteering is determined by hours of programs.
Special Event Volunteer
Opportunity: Just like education volunteers, this is a position for someone who has a busy life and would only like to work a few times a year. If you like getting into character and being silly with kids at a princess or superhero event, you’d love this opportunity. Volunteers lead activities and play with kids and families during these magical events.
Description: Assist with activities and other stations at special events. This is a very social role and varies based on the event. Events are typically held in the evenings or on weekends.
Maintenance and Exhibit Volunteer
Opportunity: Maybe you love the Museum, but chatting and playing really isn’t your thing. We are always looking for help painting, sewing, fixing exhibits, cleaning, and various other facility projects. This could be a scheduled position or an as needed position. We’re flexible to your needs.
Description: Assist with maintenance of Museum and exhibits. Duties would include painting, outdoor projects, and/or assist with moving exhibits. This role is fairly removed from children and families, but may still be on the exhibit floor during operating hours. Needs to have experience with tools and painting.
If you’re interested in volunteering, please fill out the form below (Google or Paper) and return to Abby at firstname.lastname@example.org or in person at the museum!
